Phoenix Articles Lead to Newly Released Book

Boston, Mass. -- September 21, 2004 -- Freelance writer Sean Glennon's latest book, This Pats Year, has just been released by Taylor Trade Publishing of Maryland. This Pats Year is a fan's chronicle of the (ultimately disappointing) 2002 New England Patriots season and is based on a series of 16 game-by-game (but definitely not play-by-play) essays published in the Boston Phoenix.

Phoenix senior managing editor Clif Garboden says, "The Phoenix doesn't cover sports much these days, and there's certainly no lack of copy about the Pats in the dailies. Serial columns are rare and old-fashioned, as well, in this short-attention-span era. But when Sean approached me with the idea for a column about Patriot fans and the cultural and emotional tides that drive them, we figured we had a sufficiently alternative concept and gave it a shot. In the end, it didn't matter that the defending NFL champs ended up losing the division title to the Jets. Sean's column transcended scorekeeping."

Sean Glennon, who lives just outside Northampton, Mass., writes about sports and indie music. His work has appeared in the Boston Phoenix, the (now-defunct) Worcester Phoenix, the Valley Advocate and salon.com, as well as the Hartford Courant, the Boston Globe and Journal News of White Plains, N.Y.
